FTI Consulting
FTI Consulting has appointed Sophie Mayall as a managing director in the firm’s financial services team within the strategic communications segment in London.

Mayall is a highly respected communications advisor in the financial services sector with deep expertise across the investments landscape. She was recently director and head of institutional asset management at the financial services communications consultancy MRM. Whilst there, she sat on the senior leadership team and was responsible for influencing the strategy and positioning of the firm.

She has more than a decade of experience providing strategic counsel and direction to financial services firms, including pensions and institutional investment consultants, financial advisors and platform providers. Mayall advises on a variety of communications matters, including private equity takeovers, high-profile transactions, corporate positioning and profile raising.

Mayall's remit is to enhance the firm’s financial services’ savings and investments offering, which advises leading brands across the sector on integrated, multi-stakeholder communications globally.

“Sophie is recognised as a leading communications practitioner in the investments industry, having won industry awards for excellent counsel and work on various client initiatives,” Daisy Hall, a senior managing director in the strategic communications segment at FTI Consulting, said.

FTI Consulting is a global business advisory firm, concentrating on helping organisations manage change, mitigate risk and resolve disputes: financial, legal, operational, political and regulatory, reputational and transactional. It has a network of offices across  the UK, as well as the Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands.

Carmignac
Carmignac has announced the appointments of two long-short fund managers to join its growing alternatives team. Johan Fredriksson joined the firm on 21 June and Dean Smith will be joining on 1 September.

Smith and Fredriksson, who are highly experienced investors, join Carmignac from TT International where they co-managed a European long-short equity strategy. Since its launch in 2019, the strategy they previously managed delivered strong risk-adjusted returns, placing the fund in the top quartile of its category.

Smith and Fredriksson’s appointments represent Carmignac’s commitment to reinforcing its alternative offering and deepening its fund management expertise in this area. Over the last year, Carmignac has appointed six alternative specialists and strengthened its alternative fund range. Specifically, Smith and Fredriksson will boost the firm’s long-short European equity franchise which has grown significantly in recent years.

“Investors are increasingly turning to uncorrelated strategies to complement their core allocation. We’re pleased to continue hiring top-industry talent as we expand our alternatives proposition, building a full range of solutions designed to meet various investor requirements.

“Dean and Johan will be valuable additions to our growing alternatives team and the wider investment team. Their deep experience and risk management skills will be beneficial as we boost the capacity of our long-short proposition, in the interest of our clients,” Maxime Carmignac, managing director of Carmignac UK and head of strategic product development, said.
