Ogier Appoints Private Wealth Specialist As BVI Partner

Ogier, the offshore law firm, has appointed Zac Lucas as a partner in its British Virgin Islands office.

Lucas joins from BVI-based Harney Westwood & Riegels, where he was a partner and head of the trusts team. Prior to moving offshore Lucas practised at Russell – Cooke Solicitors in London, where he specialised in tax and estate planning for high net worth individuals and families.

Lucas is a well-recognised figure in the BVI market, Ogier said in a statement, and is credited with having created a number of BVI trust solutions that capitalise on the provisions of the 2003 Virgin Islands Special Trusts Act.

Commenting on the hire, Michael Fay, managing partner of Ogier BVI, lauded Lucas as “both a leader and innovator in the private wealth and trust world” and said his appointment signals the firm’s ongoing commitment to the evolution of the BVI office and market.

Lucas’ hire follows a number of internal partner promotions, along with one external appointment, which Ogier announced in February.

Christopher Russell, head of the litigation and insolvency team in the Cayman Islands, and Angus Davison, a specialist in investment funds, structured finance and corporate and commercial law, were made partners of Ogier Cayman. Nicholas Plowman, who focuses on large cross border and multi-jurisdictional transactions as well as private acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures, was appointed as a partner at Ogier Hong Kong.

Additionally, Nick Rogers rejoined the firm as a partner of Ogier Cayman, after having spent around four years working at another offshore law firm. He first joined the firm in 2001 and during his career has advised clients in Europe, the US and Asia on acquisitions, securities offerings and general corporate matters.

Ogier Group has doubled its size over the past five years and now has offices in Bahrain, Tokyo, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jersey, London, Montevideo and New Zealand.
