Catherine Whittaker has left Frank Russell Company to join Coutts & Co., as head of strategy and marketing. She is a temporary replacement for Caroline Moss, who has moved to corporate banking and financial markets at Royal Bank of Scotland, which owns the private bank. Whittaker reports to Andrew Fisher, chief executive, but her appointment is not permanent. Whittaker was previously director of marketing at the London office of Frank Russell, the US multi-manager investment firm. Scott Donald, who previously worked in Frank Russell's research department, has taken up Whittaker's role.
Mary-Anne Daly is to leave her job as managing director of Baring Asset Management's private client division to develop Cazenove & Co.,'s top tier private client business. Daly will join as head of business development for high net-worth individuals in November and will report to Nigel Rowe, joint group managing director.
Markus Tödtli, chief executive officer of Bank Hofmann, an independent private bank belonging to the Credit Suisse Group, will step down from his post at the end of the year after deciding to take early retirement. Tödtli will pass on the baton to Beat Spuelher, currently the Zurich regional head of Credit Suisse Private Banking.
Tessen von Heydebreck, previously one of three global heads of private banking, has been made group chief administrative officer at Deutsche Bank. Bernd von Maltzen will now be the sole global head of private banking, Mayo Shattuck III having announced his retirement.
Gérard Piasko has been hired as chief investment officer at Julius Baer. He will report to Marcus Gonseth, head of private banking investment, and replaces Urs Dreier who left his job earlier this year for personal reasons. CSPB has not yet found a replacement for Piasko who takes up his new post in December.
US & Canada
James Gorman has been named as president of Merrill Lynch's private client group. The 43-year-old Australian replaces Stanley O'Neal who was appointed president of the brokerage in July. Gorman was the number two at the US private client business where he managed 15,000 brokers.
Sherman Moore has been hired as the new head of private banking at Riggs & Co., the wealth management arm of Riggs Bank. Sherman was previously vice president and sales manager of advisory services for JP Morgan corporate clients. He will report to Henry Dudley, president, and replaces Albert Behar, who is taking up a sales role.
Michael Palin has been appointed as a senior vice president at EFG Private Bank's Hong Kong office. Palin will report to Bob Chiu, who heads up the Hong Kong operations. He was previously director of private clients at Investec Asset Management in Hong Kong and the firm declined to say whether he has been replaced.
David Lamere, head of private client services at Mellon Financial Corporation, has been promoted to vice chairman. Lamere, who is one of six vice-chairmen, was also appointed to the executive management group in June this year.
