Giant Japanese Asset Manager Forms UK Pact
The Asia-headquartered business has agreed a strategic pact with a UK investment firm that concentrates on sustainability. The partnership will complete – subject to regulatory approval – by April 2024.
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management, the Japanese group,
has formed a strategic partner with Osmosis, a UK sustainable
investment house. As part of the pact, SMTAM has acquired a
minority stake in the UK firm.
The firms will develop products and strategies, drawing on
the efforts of their research teams.
The SuMi TRUST AM stake is subject to approval by the Financial
Conduct Authority, the UK regulator, and likely to be completed
by the end of April 2024.
Osmosis, founded in 2009 and headquartered in London, is a
research-based, quantitative investment manager.
The Japanese firm oversaw $573 billion assets under management as
of the end of September 2023.
