Standard Chartered Hires Former UBS Middle East Specialist

Sarah Woolfenden, a former UBS private banker specialising in Middle Eastern clients, has joined Standard Chartered Private Bank, WealthBriefing understands from sources familiar with the matter.

Ms Woolfenden’s departure from the Swiss banking giant’s London desk was exclusively revealed by this publication yesterday, and at that time details of her next role had yet to emerge.

Standard Chartered Private Bank’s aggressive recruitment campaign would seem to be continuing unabated, with the firm last week confirming the appointment of Anthony Rawlinson as head of private banking and office manager in Abu Dhabi.

Mr Rawlinson joined the London-listed firm from Merrill Lynch Banque Suisse in Dubai, where it is believed he was a vice president.

Standard Chartered Private Bank announced plans to recruit 100 extra relationship managers over the coming year in May, and in addition to this hiring spree the bank is also expanding its Asian footprint, particularly in Korea.

At the end of September Standard Chartered opened a new private banking centre in Apgujung, Seoul – its sixth such centre in the country. A further private banking operation in Dokok-dong is due to open for business this month.
