Lombard International Names New Europe CEO

The firm, which provides wealth management solutions, has a new chief executive for Europe.
Lombard
International has appointed former UBS senior executive Axel
Hörger as chief executive for Europe, taking over from John Van
Der Wielen, previously interim CEO, who remains a non-executive
director.
Hörger will report to John Hillman, chairman of Lombard
International. He joins the firml from his role as CEO at
UBS Deutschland. Prior to his time at UBS, Hörger was head of
institutional sales for Goldman Sachs Asset Management in EMEA,
leading client acquisition activities and defining market and

The firm, which operates in areas such as private placement
insurance, said the latest announcement is part of a series of
strategic developments, such as the formal launch, in September
last year of its global life insurance-based wealth management
business. That move came after the integration of
Luxembourg-headquartered Lombard International Assurance with
US-headquartered Philadelphia Financial. In January this year,
Lombard International Assurance acquired Zurich Eurolife
Luxembourg’s Private Banking Solutions business (subject to
regulatory approval), as well as confirming its plans to expand
into Asia with the appointment of Tammy Lu Tsui as CEO for
Asia.
Hörger will be based in Luxembourg.
Lombard International Assurance provides wealth structuring
solutions using unit-linked life insurance to high net worth
individuals, their families and institutions around the globe.
The global group, branded as Lombard International,
launched to market in September 2015. It has head offices in
Luxembourg and Philadelphia. Global assets under
administration are more than $75 billion with a global staff
number of over 500. Funds managed by Blackstone,
the US-headquartered
investment house, own Lombard International.
