Tilney Bestinvest Continues UK Expansion

The UK wealth management house has added to its teams in Scotland.
Tilney Bestinvest, the UK-based investment and financial planning group, will expand its Glasgow financial planning team with Roy Smith joining as director, financial planning, and will report to Stephen Parker, director, financial planning.
The addition of Roy Smith, who will be based in Glasgow, is part of the company’s strategic focus on expanding its financial planning team. He will deliver advice as part of the firm’s ‘two expert’ approach which sees financial planners paired alongside the firm’s investment managers to provide a high quality integrated wealth management service to clients, Tilney Bestinvest said.
Smith will join the firm from RBS Private Clients Group where he worked as wealth manager and chartered financial planner since August 2011. He focused primarily on private client advice by providing holistic financial planning and wealth management for a portfolio of high net worth clients. Previously he worked for RBS a senior private banking manager, and has also held roles at private banking firm Adam & Company and Clydesdale Bank Insurance Brokers.
“Our financial planning business is currently undergoing a period of strong growth that reflects the huge number of enquiries the firm is receiving,” said managing director of financial planning at the firm, Richard Dawes.
“With the radical shake-up to pensions, demand for sound financial planning advice has never been greater, and appointments like Roy’s ensure that we can provide the superior service our clients expect. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
On 9 June, the group appointed Stuart Layzell as chief financial officer, a newly-created role.
Tilney Bestinvest has more than £9 billion ($14 billion) of assets under management on behalf of its clients.
