BNY Mellon Wealth Management has hired Thomas Ryan as senior director for business development in Seattle, where he reports to regional president Jim Barnyak.

Ryan joins the firm as part of a two-year recruiting campaign announced by BNY Mellon Wealth Management chief executive Larry Hughes earlier this year.

BNY Mellon said its Seattle-area assets under management have increased by 30 per cent over the past two years. As well as hiring Ryan, it has also added two assistant portfolio managers and a fiduciary services professional there.

“We plan to hire two more team members in 2014,” Barnyak said.

Ryan was latterly a financial advisor with UBS Financial Services in Tacoma, WA. Prior to that, he held sales and client service roles at Russell Investments – most recently as regional director of the Russell Indexes.

In related news, last week BNY Mellon Wealth Management hired Trevor Hunt as vice president for business development for the firm's Advisory Services business in Toronto.
