Neptune Appoints Trio To Investment Team

The UK-based fund management company has hired three analysts to support its global sector model portfolios.

Neptune Investment Management has added three analysts to its London-based investment team.

The trio join following Neptune's introduction of global sector model portfolios, which provide fund managers with a real-time view on each sector and the key companies within them. Rupert Galway-Cooper, Ruth Chambers and Sam Kelly will undertake research on the consumer, oil and gas and industrials sectors respectively.

Galway-Cooper joins from Sanford C Bernstein where he undertook global research on the energy and consumer sectors; Chambers previously served as an oil and gas equity research associate at the Bank of Montreal; and Kelly was an equity analyst for a long/short global hedge fund at Bremner Capital Management.

Neptune's founder and chief executive, Robin Geffen, said that since launch, all ten of the company's global sector model portfolios are delivering outperformance compared to their benchmarks.

“The outperformance we seek at Neptune comes from a thoughtful interpretation of the major changes taking place in the real-world economy. One key aspect of that is understanding disruptive change taking place within industries,” said Neptune's chief economist and chief investment officer, James Dowey.

“This is an area where we believe a significant interpretational advantage can be gained because many investors focus excessively on short-term incremental news. The analysts we have hired have all demonstrated to Robin and me that they have an in-depth understanding of their own sectors. I believe this will enable them to contribute valuable ideas to our fund managers, who can in turn seek to deliver alpha for our clients.”

Neptune recently hired Valentine Bugeja from M&G to spearhead its Swiss business.
