Yachting Market Highlights Asia's Rising Riches

The Singapore Yacht Show 2013, taking place next month, has doubled in size from the previous year, as a result of being fuelled by the demand from Asia’s rising wealthy population.

“Unquestionably we are seeing a developing yachting lifestyle industry. Following on from the Hainan and Singapore yacht shows, at least two of the leading super  yacht companies have sold two or three super yachts to Asian owners - and that is just the super yachts,” Andy Treadwell, managing director of organisers, Singapore Yacht Events, told WealthBriefingAsia.

The event, which claims to be the main yacht show in South East Asia, is expected to attract wealthy individuals from all over the region, with the “majority coming from neighbouring economies such as Indonesia and Malaysia”, according to Treadwell.

Line-up

Opening on 18 April for four full days this year, the show will welcome the award-winning, 57.5 metre sailing yacht Twizzle, designed by Dubois Naval Architects and built by Royal Huisman in Holland, who will make her international boat show debut at the Singapore Yacht Show.

In addition, Aquariva by Gucci will be unveiled in Singapore for the first time through a collaboration with Officina Italian Design, in a limited edition model customised by Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini.

British builder Sunseeker will be exhibiting some of its world-leading range of production yachts for the first time at the event, including its 40 metre flagship motoryacht Tanvas, built especially for an Asian client in 2010.

Another British brand joining the line-up for the first time this year is Princess Yachts, part of LVMH’s luxury brand portfolio, who will be exhibiting no less than seven vessels at the show.

The event takes place at ONE°15 Marina Club, Sentosa Cove between 18-21 April 2013.
