UK-based Quilter
Cheviot, the UK discretionary wealth
manager, has hired Phil Ross as an equity research analyst
to lead its analysis of insurance and utilities companies.
Ross (pictured) joins from Exane BNP Paribas, where he was the lead analyst for European reinsurance companies. He has also held insurance company analyst positions at Berenberg and Mediobanca, as well as serving as chief of staff to the head of the Prudential Regulation Authority earlier in his career.
Ross, who will report to head of equity research, Chris Beckett, will also work closely with the teams that manage the Climate Assets funds and the Managed Portfolio Service Building Blocks funds.
“Phil is one of the leading analysts in the insurance space, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to add him to the team. Both the insurance and utilities sectors are proving to be very interesting areas just now in the face of market volatility thanks to their defensive characteristics,” Beckett said. “These equities can add crucial defensive qualities to client portfolios, so having someone of Phil’s experience to help hunt out the best opportunities in those markets should add real value.”
Spanning direct equities, fixed income and third-party funds, Quilter Cheviot’s 22-strong research team also provides analysis for the firm’s investment management team to build diversified discretionary client portfolios.
