Sarasin
& Partners, a global thematic investment manager, has
appointed Mark Burgess (pictured) as an independent non-executive
director of its LLP board.
With more than 30 years of senior fund management experience, Burgess most recently served as chief investment officer (CIO) EMEA and deputy global CIO at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, a position he held for nine years. Prior to this, he was head of equities at Legal & General Investment Management, where he also led the group’s corporate governance efforts. Burgess began his career as a UK equity fund manager and held senior positions at Deutsche Asset Management.
Burgess is an expert and leader in in the asset management industry. He was a founding board member of the Investor Forum, chaired the investment committee at the Investment Association, and contributed to the Kingman Review advisory panel.
Since leaving his full-time career, Burgess became a senior advisor and then a partner at Tuchan (acquired by Teneo), where he guided clients on shareholder and capital market matters until 2024. He sits on the board of Aviva Investors, where he chairs the remuneration and nominations committees, He is also an associate trustee of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, serving on the investment committee.

Russell Speechlys has appointed Libby Elliott (pictured
below) as a partner in the corporate, restructuring, and
insolvency team in London.

She will be responsible for driving forward the firm’s non-contentious restructuring and advisory work streams. The collaborative, cross-practice nature of her work means that Elliott will work with various teams including corporate, real estate, employment and litigation to strengthen the firm’s market profile and attract new mandates from the wider market.
Prior to joining the firm, Elliott was a managing director and head of risk and legal. Before this, she held a senior leadership position at KPMG and partner roles at Dentons and Stephenson Harwood.
Elliott has nearly 30 years’ experience in the financial advisory and insolvency landscape, and a strong reputation in the market for advising clients on high-profile domestic and cross-border restructurings, complex insolvency matters, large-scale litigation and risk management. She also is experienced in defending officeholders and their firms against claims, as well as managing regulatory reviews and investigations.
In particular, Elliott has "a unique" skillset for dealing with the legal matters surrounding firms of insolvency practitioners and restructuring professionals moving to alternative business structures and platforms, the firm said in a statement.
“Libby’s appointment adds real strength and depth of offering to our corporate, restructuring and insolvency team,” Stewart Hey, partner and divisional managing partner of the litigation and dispute resolution division, said. “Her advisory practice will significantly bolster the reputation of the firm’s non-contentious restructuring offering and will enable us to provide a more comprehensive service to our clients.”
