Progeny
UK-based Progeny, a wealth, financial planning and advisory firm that has carried out a string of M&A deals, has recruited Tim Gillman as chief operating officer. This follows the recent appointment of Tom Wood as chief finance officer.

An accomplished financial services executive with over 30 years’ experience in operations, technology, risk and change, Gillman (pictured) has experience in transforming and integrating large and complex regulated businesses, the firm said in a statement.

Gillman was previously chief operating officer at the Australia-based Link Group, the largest provider of services in Australia's superannuation administration industry. Prior to this, he was COO of First Bank of Nigeria Gillman has served in a number of significant roles at Barclays, which he first joined on their Graduate Leadership Programme.

“His significant experience in delivering transformational projects and driving operational excellence will be hugely valuable to Progeny, as we look to mature our unique vision for professional services and expand into new territories internationally,” Neil Moles, CEO of Progeny, said.

The firm dates back to 1981. Following a management buyout in 2008, and a rebrand, the Progeny name entered the field in 2014, and officially launched as a firm under that name – spanning a variety of sectors – in 2016. It has acquired almost 30 firms in recent years, most recently Manchester-based Chartered Wealth Management in late January 2024.

Hunters Law
London-based Hunters Law LLP has appointed Alex Brereton and Dr Maria Wright as partner and senior associate respectively.

They will strengthen the rapidly-growing family department, now a team of 15 lawyers, the firm said in a statement.

Brereton, who is a specialist in HNW and UHNW matrimonial finance claims, is experienced in cross-jurisdictional work involving complex asset and income structures. Whilst primarily focusing on the financial aspects of relationship breakdown, Brereton is also experienced in child arrangement proceedings, including those with international elements.

Wright, who is returning to private client family law, was previously a senior legal advisor for the charity Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB). She is an acknowledged expert in the field of international children law, including abduction, wardship jurisdictional disputes, recognition and enforcement of orders concerning children, relocation, as well as cases involving forced marriage, and honour-based violence and child protection. Wright specialises in the 1996 Hague Convention, and has undertaken an MSc and a PhD on the operation of private international law in care proceedings in England.

“As Legal Counsel to CFAB and with the recent publication of her doctoral thesis on the operation of international law on children’s proceedings in England, Maria is at the forefront of the law on the international movement of children. Alex, in turn, has been at the heart of a number of ‘big money’ High Court cases. Alex’s expertise will build on our existing specialism in this area,” Henry Hood, senior partner and head of the family department, said.
