Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management? - Credit Suisse, Stephenson Harwood, Others

The latest moves and appointments for the wealth management sector in the UK, rest of Europe, Middle East and select international locations.

Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse has named a former HSBC senior figure to head up its wealth business in Germany, with a focus on the ultra-high net worth and entrepreneurs segment.

Sven Stephan’s task is to lead and build “the new onsite dedicated wealth management team” at the bank, it said in a statement yesterday. Before joining Credit Suisse (Deutschland) in 2021 as managing director, Stephan led HSBC Deutschland’s private banking team. He has 23 years of experience in banking, 17 of which are in wealth management. He is based in Frankfurt and reports to Dr. Frank Heitmann, CEO Credit Suisse (Deutschland) and functionally to Mischa Tschopp, market area head of Germany.

Stephenson Harwood
Stephenson Harwood has added Jonathan Conder, formerly from Macfarlanes, as a partner based in its London office.

Conder, 60, advises UK and international private clients, trustees, foundations, family offices and private banks on all aspects of tax, trust, estate and succession planning, as well as regulatory, immigration and philanthropic issues. He also has significant experience in assisting families and trustees on contentious matters. At Macfarlanes he was a partner and formerly head of the firm's private wealth practice.

“With John joining us it is a vote of confidence and will open the door for other partners to come and join us,” James Quarmby, partner, private wealth and tax at Stephenson Harwood, told this publication. Quarmby noted that when he joined the firm in 2014, he was the only private client partner – the organisation now has five with Conder’s arrival.

“We are serious about private clients. John sees that message and believes it,” Quarmby added.

Muzinich & Co
Muzinich & Co has hired Yiannis Bartzilas as director of environmental, social and governance business.

Bartzilas is joining from Pimco, where he was an ESG and climate change specialist. He is based in London.

“Given the increasing importance of ESG within credit investing, I’m excited about being able to undertake such a key role in helping the firm expand its research capabilities and further integrate ESG into its investment process,” Bartzilas said.

Muzinich & Co specialises in public and private corporate credit. Founded in New York by George Muzinich in 1988, and active in Italy since 2014, the company is now present in 10 countries. It manages about $43 billion of assets.

Capital Group
Capital Group, overseeing more than $2.7 trillion of assets, has appointed former Morgan Stanley senior figure Kat Ferris to the newly-created role of Asia and Europe product development head.

Ferris reports to Alexandra Haggard, head of product and investment services for Asia and Europe, Capital Group said in a statment.

With more than 16 years’ experience in asset management, Ferris is joining from Morgan Stanley Investment Management where she was head of international product for four years. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Ferris worked as a product manager at Robeco.
