French asset management house La
Financière de l'Echiquier has launched a space-sector
investment fund in Switzerland, called Echiquier Space. The firm
is targeting an investment “universe” worth $400 billion.
The fund, which holds around 30 stocks, concentrates on four
broad areas: space operations, satellites and satellite
constellations, and assets designed to make the most of air, road
and maritime transport or resources; space travel and return to
Earth, and communication solutions between these two frontiers;
satellite production, robotisation and automation processes; the
operational management of space ports; and sectors such as
activities from the connectivity to semi-conductors or to 3D
printers.
In its press release, the French firm said the space sector could
be worth a total of $2.7 trillion by 2045.
Echiquier Space's international thematic management team has four
people, led by Rolando Grandi, CFA.
There is also an environmental dimension to the new offering, the
firm said.
“Investing in the innovative space economy provides excellent
opportunities for both the present and the future. This theme
will also contribute to improving the conditions of life on
Earth. Today, of the 50 indicators identified by the UNO for
monitoring climate change, 26 are provided by satellite imagery.
Space and space-related applications are indispensable for
tracking climate change and taking immediate action,” Alexandre
Sauterel, country head Switzerland of LFDE, said.
The fund was registered in Switzerland on 9 July.
