Western Asset Hires Two Portfolio Managers

Western Asset Management has bolstered its offering in both industrial and emerging markets with the hire of two senior portfolio managers.

The firm, a subsidiary of Legg Mason, has added Gordon Brown as portfolio manager for its global markets team based in London and Chia-Liang Lian as head of investment management in Asia, excluding Japan.

Lian joins from Pimco where he was in charge of the firm's emerging Asia team in Singapore, where he will remain in his new job.

Brown joins from Baillie Gifford & Co where he ran the firm’s emerging markets bond fund. Before that, he was head of global fixed income for State Street Global Advisors.

In his new job, Brown will manage global mandates and provide specialist input on eastern European debt.

Western Asset had $447 billion in assets under management at the end of the second quarter this year.
