Walkers Hires Five, Appoints Managing Partner For Jersey Office

Walkers, the private client law firm, has made a raft of appointments for its Jersey office, including that of Jonathan Tonge as managing partner.
Tonge, who was global head of hedge funds at Walkers, has transferred to the firm’s Jersey office from its Cayman Islands base. His career has been focused on advising investment funds and corporate clients, including Blackstone, Blackrock and UBS.
Meanwhile, Joss Morris has relocated to Jersey from the Cayman Islands’ finance and corporate and private equity groups, joining as senior counsel for the firm’s finance and corporate groups. His particular focus is on the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central and Eastern Europe.
The remaining appointments are those of Alex Carus, Mark Crichton and Johanna Hendry. Carus, who joins from Bedell Cristin, is a Jersey advocate and English solicitor, advising on corporate and banking transactions. He has a background in securitisations and structured finance, including Shariah-compliant financing.
Crichton joins from Fladgate, having worked on a range of corporate and investment funds transactions, while Hendry joins from Guernsey-based Carey Olsen, with a background in offshore investment funds, finance and corporate work for a variety of clients.
“The firm is seeing an increasing number of international clients who see Jersey as an attractive jurisdiction in which to do business, with great potential for growth. Because of Jersey’s geographic location, it appeals to clients operating across multiple jurisdictions,” said Tonge.
