Private equity firm Blackstone Group is launching a $500 million hedge fund which will focus on buying distressed debt. The move is a further blurring of the lines between buyout and hedge funds. Recently, large private equity companies such as Carlyle Group and Texas Pacific Group have launched hedge funds, while large hedge funds like D.E. Shaw & Co., Amaranth Advisors have expanded buyout activities.
