US Asset Manager Enters Japan's Growing Wealth Market

GoldenTree Asset Management, the US asset management firm, has partnered with another US company's Asian investment management business to tap Japan's growing wealth market.

By leveraging on the local strengths of GreensLedge Capital Markets and its Japan-based affiliate GreensLedge Asia, GoldenTree will have the ability to further strengthen its local presence and develop new business opportunities in the country. The US firm has been serving as asset manager for a number of private investment funds in Japan since 2001.

Greensledge Capital set up its Asia business in Tokyo in September 2010 to provide advisory and placement services to Asian markets. It was established in collaboration with Iku Nishino, who previously served as head of fixed income sales in Japan for JP Morgan.

GoldenTree Asset Management manages around $16 billion of assets and operates out of offices in New York and London. GreensLedge is a US broker-dealer and is represented in Asia by Greensledge Asia in Tokyo, where it is fully-licensed broker-dealer.
