UK Expansion Continues Apace At German Private Bank

Berenberg, the venerable German private bank, has further bolstered its London-based private banking team with the appointment of Nick Anley as a director, building on a succession of hires made last year.

Anley joins from Arjent, where he had been head of private client investment management. A specialist in advising both high and ultra high net worth clients, his focus has been on hedge funds, absolute return strategies, currency and fixed income portfolios, and US mid and large cap equity trading portfolios.

In August of last year Berenberg appointed Max White as a director to focus on clients in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the North West of the UK, and Charlotte Baird as an associate director. White joined from Morgan Stanley, where he had been a private banker, while Baird came over from Deloitte, where she had specialised in advising UHNW individuals, wealthy families and trusts.

In July Matthew Stemp joined the London team, in a dual role linking the private bank and Berenberg Asset Management in Hamburg, in a bid to develop the firm's presence among UK institutional clients. Stemp previously spent 17 years at UBS Global Asset Management.

Berenberg’s roots stretch right back to 1590 and it now has a global network of 18 offices, with some 1,000 employees and €25 billion ($32 billion) in assets under management.
