UK's Hurst Point Names New Investment Management MD

Created in 2019 and backed by US private equity titan Carlyle Group, Hurst Point has carried out a number of wealth and asset management acquisitions.
London-headquartered Hurst Point has named Michael Bishop as managing director of its investment management division, comprising principally Hawksmoor Investment Management and Gore Browne Investment Management.
Bishop is succeeding Sarah Soar who, after having led Hawksmoor over the last five years, has stepped down from the business.
Bishop, who started his career with Arthur Andersen and PWC, has spent more than 20 years in wealth management – initially with UBS, rising to head the bank’s UHNW business across Northern Europe. In 2022, he moved to WH Ireland, the AIM-listed business offering broking and wealth management services, where he was head of wealth management, with responsibility for discretionary investment management and financial planning advice.
Bishop is also a board trustee of The Land Trust.
Soar’s tenure included guiding the business through the pandemic; finalising the sale of the Hawksmoor business to Hurst Point Group; integrating the Hawksmoor and Wellian businesses; bringing on board the Bath and Worcester investment teams; completing the acquisition of Gore Browne Investment Management; and absorbing the Helm Godfrey investment team.
Hurst Point, created in 2019, is backed by the Carlyle Group; it has gross assets under advice or management (AuA/A) of more than £10 billion. The financial planning division holds about £5.0 billion of this AuA/M, with about £5.2 billion of gross assets under management in the investment management division, of which around £1.8 billion also forms part of assets under advice.
Since the group was created in connection with the acquisition of Harwood Wealth Management Group – completed in March 2020 – it has acquired the wealth management business of a raft of firms, such as AJ Gallagher, Cameron Lewnes, Cedar Wealth, Hawksmoor Group, Helm Godfrey Holdings, Metis Wealth, PSG Financial, Robinson Financial Solutions, Southern Independent Financial Consultancy, and Wealth Creation & Management.
