The UK’s Financial Services Authority has appointed a senior City lawyer as its new head of enforcement. Margaret Cole a partner in US law firm White & Case and ex-Stephenson Harwood is to fill the position in July, having extensive knowledge of financial crime having worked on the liquidation of Bank of Credit and Commerce International and represented the Maxwell Group pension fund in its efforts to claw back money stolen by Robert Maxwell. Ms Cole's appointment will also boost the FSA's efforts to recruit high-level staff with experience of working in the City and she is expected to be fully involved in the FSA's enforcement review, which is likely to be concluded in the next few months. She will work alongside Tim Herrington, head of the FSA's regulatory decisions committee, who joined the FSA earlier this year from Clifford Chance.
