UBP Enters Taiwan Banking Partnership

The partnership is an example of such arrangements that have involved a number of Swiss private banks in the Asia region.
Union
Bancaire Privée, the Geneva-headquartered private bank, is
partnering with Taiwan’s Taishin Bank to target
HNW clients in the Asian jurisdiction.
Under this agreement, UBP will become Taishin Bank's exclusive
global strategic partner for private banking, providing market
insights and investment expertise, product capabilities and
wealth management knowledge, UBP said in a statement on
Friday.
The arrangement is an example of the kind of pacts that Swiss and
other international banks have forged with domestic Asian
partners, using existing local connections rather than having to
build an ecosystem from scratch. Rival Swiss private bank Julius
Baer and the UK’s Schroders, for example, have formed Thailand
JVs with local partners. Geneva-headquartered Bordier & Cie has a
JV with Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank in Vietnam.
UBP will support Taishin Bank in enhancing its private banking
offering and investment platform for domestic and offshore
clients by jointly developing new investment solutions and
providing global investment expertise. The banks will carry out
joint training programmes, with Taishin Bank
using UBP’s global investment insights to enhance its
professional investment advisory and asset allocation
capabilities, the statement said.
UBP’s move comes at a time when recent financial results have
been positive.
In July, the bank said group profit reached SFr169.4 million
($187 million) in the first half of 2026, up 40.4 per cent from
SFr120.7 million in the same period last year. In 2025, UBP
acquired Societe Generale's private banking activities in
Switzerland and the UK. The bank has SFr193.5 billion in assets
under management.
“We are pleased to support Taishin Bank as its strategic global
private banking partner, combining our know-how as a leading
Swiss pure-play private bank with Taishin’s longstanding domestic
presence and expertise,” Michael Blake, head of wealth management
and CEO Asia at UBP, said. “This partnership creates meaningful
value for Taishin Bank’s clients through our combined strengths
and marks an important step as UBP continues to expand its
presence in Asia.”
The CEO for the private banking and strategic wealth clients
group at Taishin Bank is Sam Lin.
