The Hartford Names Investment Head As Interim Chief

The Hartford Financial Services Group, the insurance and wealth management firm, has named Hugh Whelan as acting head of Hartford Investment Management Company.

Whelan assumes the role of Greg McGreevey, who is leaving his post as president, chief investment officer and executive vice president at the end of this month. The company has already begun a search for a permanent successor but in the interim Whelan will report to Liam McGee, The Hartford's chairman, president and chief executive.

Whelan is currently the managing director and head of investments at the Hartford Investment Management Company where he leads the investment platform, covering fixed income, quantitative equity and alternatives. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, he was the head of quantitative equities at ING.

As of 30 June 2011, The Hartford had wealth management assets of around $309.6 billion.
