TD Waterhouse Launches iPhone App

Toronto-headquartered TD Waterhouse has launched a free mobile app to give its banking, insurance and wealth management clients mobile access to services via the iPhone and iPad.

Users of the TD mobile app allows users to login to TD Canada Trust EasyWeb internet banking to carry out transactions and also to connect to TD Waterhouse agents to open accounts, get market quotes, and to place trades in English, French, Cantonese and Mandarin.

"TD has more than four million online banking users and 850,000 WebBroker clients, so as the demand for smartphones grows, this is a natural evolution for us," said Paal Kaperdal, senior vice president, Online Channel. "TD's new app is our initial venture and we will continue to enhance our offering with new features and for additional devices in the months ahead."

Banks and wealth managers are increasingly moving to offer services on the iPhone and other mobile devices such as such as the Blackberry and Google Android as demand for on-the-go capabilities continues to build.

More than 150 million people will use their mobile phones to view their bank details by 2011, according to a report by Juniper Research, and while developed East Asian countries currently lead the way in using the technology, Europe and North America are catching up fast.
