Summary Of Executive, Senior Moves In Global Wealth Management – May 2023

May was a brisk month for moves to and from a number of wealth management sector firms around the world.
Julius Baer made new hires at its Basel branch. Gabriele Klass
joined as a relationship manager, André Giehl took over as
head of a local high net worth relationship manager
team, and Salvatore Cuppuleri started as a relationship
manager in Basel.
Klass has more than 28 years of experience in the financial
industry. She joined from Basler Kantonalbank, where she worked
in private banking as a relationship manager for UHNW individuals
and corporate clients for four years. Prior to that, she worked
at other financial institutions in Basel, including UBS, Credit
Suisse, and Bank Safra Sarasin.
Financial expert, Giehl worked for Credit Suisse for around 13
years, mainly in Basel, including 11 years as a client advisor in
private banking, primarily for UHNW clients as well as for
entrepreneurs and executives.
Salvatore Cuppuleri has worked in the financial industry for more
than 25 years. After five years in management positions at
Raiffeisenbank Möhlin, he worked in a variety of roles in private
banking at Neue Aargauer Bank, including deputy head of private
banking Fricktal from 2009 to 2020. For the past two years, he
has been a client advisor in private banking at Credit Suisse.
Earlier in May Marcel Suhner took over as Julius Baer head of
intermediaries for the German- and Italian-speaking Swiss market.
Suhner filled the slot left vacant by Michael Yigit, who joined
LGT in Switzerland, as separately announced by LGT.
Fiera Capital Corporation appointed Klaus Schuster as executive
director and chief executive officer EMEA (Europe, Middle East
and Africa). Schuster, who has more than 25 years of
experience in international financial services, built and managed
distribution and sales businesses locally, regionally and
globally, with a network of institutional, financial intermediary
and wealth clients. In his most recent role, Schuster acted as
chief executive officer, EMEA and global head of wealth
management distribution at a private, global asset manager in
London.
Connection Capital, a private client alternative investment
business, expanded its senior team through the hire of Michael
Mowlem as chief investment officer to head up its direct private
equity and wider alternative investments. Mowlem has worked in
the private equity industry for more than 25 years. Previously,
he was CEO/managing director of LGV Capital, the mid-market
private equity investment arm of Legal & General Group.
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment appointed
James Swaby, Chartered FCSI, as the new president of the
Cotswolds branch committee. He took over from Sandra Paul,
consultant at Prestwood Software. Swaby is a senior investment
director at Investec Wealth & Investment, leading the portfolio
management team for the region.
Schroders Personal Wealth appointed Justin Blower as regional
director for the South and South Wales. Blower reports directly
to Ben Waterhouse, chief client officer. He is responsible for
leading SPW’s advice business across the region including
Bristol, Cardiff, Oxford and the South West. Prior to joining
SPW, Blower was sales director at M&G Wealth where he led the
platform distribution teams for more than seven years. Before
that he worked at Ascentric and AXA.
Sam Murton, who has been working with Progeny as a consultant
since 2022, was appointed as the new chief operating officer.
Murton brings extensive experience in international business
consulting, strategic development and people and change
management.
Zeno Staub said he is to step down as CEO of Vontobel at the
General Meeting of Shareholders in 2024 and Felix Lenhard will
step down from his operational role as chief operating
officer at the end of 2023. After 22 years at Zurich-based
Vontobel, including 20 years as a member of the executive
committee and 12 years as CEO, Zeno Staub informed the board of
directors that he wishes to step down from his role at the next
General Meeting of Shareholders on 9 April 2024. He wants to
become more involved in the politics of Swiss civil society in
order “to give something back to the country and the people of
Switzerland in recognition of what they have enabled me to
achieve."
Lombard Odier appointed Amit Ben Sira as market head for Israel.
He reports to Stephen Kamp, head of Southern Europe
and Latin America for private clients, and is based in
Zurich. Ben Sira has more than 20 years of experience in the
financial industry, working in various leadership roles across a
number of international firms. He previously worked at a large
single-family office where he was head of private assets. Prior
to this, Ben Sira held senior positions at Barclays Private Bank,
Credit Suisse and Citibank, among others.
Sesame Bankhall Group, a UK-appointed representative network,
appointed Paul Wilson as chief operating officer. Wilson, who
joined from Aviva, has over 30 years’ financial services
experience. He held a series of wide-ranging senior executive
positions, previouisly as chief marketing officer at Aviva,
director of consulting at Barclays Wealth, and divisional
director of business development at St James’s Place.
Anne-Marie McConnon, who was appointed as global chief client
officer at Rathbones Group, the UK wealth manager, in May this
year, died a few days later. In an update on her LinkedIn page,
her husband, Aminul, wrote: “On Saturday 20 May, Anne-Marie
McConnon passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after collapsing
at home. This has come as a huge shock and the devastation of her
loss has had a massive impact on those who knew and loved
her.”
Before the Rathbones role, McConnon was global chief client
experience officer, investment management, at BNY Mellon from
January 2021 to April 2023, according to her public profile. She
worked at that US firm for more than a decade. Among other roles,
she worked at M&G, the asset management group, for more than
eight years. Committed to principles of inclusion, McConnon was a
founding member of the Investment 2020 group (whose vision is to
create a more responsible and inclusive investment industry by
bringing young talent to the industry).
Investec Wealth & Investment appointed Ian Burrows as senior
investment director in its charities team, based in the
Birmingham office. Burrows, who has more than 20 years’ industry
experience, joined from Brewin Dolphin where he was head of the
charities in the Midlands.
Fulcrum Asset Management said Patrick Forde, Gerin Tertilt and
Filippo Cartiglia joined its partnership, bringing the total
number of partners to 18. Forde joined the Fulcrum trading desk
in 2015 and was appointed head trader in 2019. His expertise with
technology has enabled Fulcrum to be early-adopters in many
areas. Tertilt joined the investment team at Fulcrum in 2017
after four years with PIMCO as a fixed income portfolio manager.
Cartiglia, who joined Fulcrum in 2019, was previously chief
international economist and partner at a hedge fund and prior to
that had worked at Goldman Sachs International’s economic
research group based in London.
Former CIO at Hawksmoor Investment Management Jim Wood-Smith is
to retire in October after working for five decades. He joined
Hawksmoor in 2014 as chief investment officer of the firm’s
private clients’ arm, developing its range of investment
solutions. He stepped back from the role last August to be become
market commentator and head of climate transition. Prior to
Hawksmoor, Wood-Smith was with Gerrard as head of research, and
with Investec Wealth Management as chief investment
strategist.
London-based Square Mile appointed David Holder as senior
investment research analyst in a new role, which involves
building out research of investment companies. Reporting to
research director John Monaghan, he also provides additional
resource to the 20-strong research and consulting team in the
analysis of open-ended funds whilst contributing to the Square
Mile’s consulting output.
Italian fintech firm Axyon AI, an AI provider for the asset
management industry, appointed Andrea Gentilini as its latest
advisory committee member. Prior to managing a fintech business,
Novus Partners, Gentilini was managing director for Union
Bancaire Privée, where he launched and co-managed the first
actively managed gold fund. His 25 years’ experience also
includes a number of other roles in the asset management
industry, including positions at UBS Wealth Management and
Barclays Capital (formerly Lehman Brothers). He is head of
Vescore, Vontobel’s asset management boutique.
Pacific Asset Management appointed of Mary Murphy as global head
of institutional sales, based in PAM’s London office. She reports
to chief executive, Matthew Lamb, and joined as a partner and
member of the executive committee. Murphy was previously head of
global consultant relations at GAM, responsible for developing
and implementing its global consultant relations
strategy.
Withers grew its Geneva-based Swiss practice by adding new
partner Berry Bloomberg. Bloomberg, previously from Burges
Salmon, is a tax and trust specialist representing clients on
asset holding structures, the taxation of offshore trusts and
companies and negotiating tax disclosures with tax
authorities.
Walker Crips Investment Management, part of Walker Crips, the UK
financial services firm, appointed former Kleinwort Hambros
senior private banker Alan Kinnaird as the company's business
development manager. Kinnaird has worked in the financial
services sector for 27 years, having spent the last three years
at Kleinwort Hambros Private Bank.
UK investment house Downing Fund Managers appointed Andrew
Vaughan to manage the VT Downing Unique Opportunities Fund (DUO)
in collaboration with former colleague Rosemary Banyard. The pair
formerly worked closely together at Sanford Deland where Banyard
launched and managed the CFP Free Spirit Fund. Vaughan took over
management of Free Spirit following Rosemary’s departure from the
company in 2019.
Evelyn Partners appointed Harrison Boar as a financial planner in
its Chelmsford office. Boar was previously at Fisher Investments
where he spent nine years as a private client advisor. During his
time there, he specialised in advising high net worth clients on
a range of financial planning areas. Boar is a chartered member
of the CISI.
Evelyn Partners appointed Nick Hathaway, a chartered financial
planner, to join its Birmingham office. Hathaway was previously
at Jerroms Financial Planning, where he had worked since 2018,
specialising in retirement planning and NHS pension work on
behalf of senior clinicians.
The business also appointed Ciara Oliver as a financial
planner in its London team as part of the firm’s expansion.
Starting her career at UBS Wealth Management and then at Killik &
Co, Oliver has nearly a decade of experience working with high
net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.
Spring Capital Partners appointed Delphine Kadel as managing
director, Germany and Austria, and Christian Nilsson as managing
director, Nordics. Kadel joined from Jupiter Asset Management,
where for six years she worked with asset allocators as sales
director, discretionary and, most recently, as sales director,
institutional clients. She spent almost a decade at Blackrock as
director of sales. Kadel started her career in 2000 as a senior
fund analyst with FERI Trust GmbH, based in Bad
Homburg.
Nilsson previously worked at William Blair IM, where he was head
of Nordic distribution. With a career in asset management
spanning more than 20 years, Nilsson worked for Morgan Stanley
Investment Management with responsibility for distribution in the
Nordic region and Luxembourg. He was also a managing director
with Aviva Investors, with distribution and investor relations
responsibilities for the Nordic region, the Baltics, and
Luxembourg.
Ostrum Asset Management, an affiliate of Natixis Investment
Managers, appointed Paris-based Axel Botte as head of markets
strategy. He was previously the global strategist in the same
team.
William Blair Investment Management appointed Thomas Body as head
of distribution for Germany and Mats Eltoft as head of Nordics
distribution. Body and Eltoft report to Tom Ross, partner and
head of international distribution. Body has almost 25 years
of business development and client relationship management
experience in Germany and Austria, covering institutional and
wholesale business. In previous roles, Body served in senior
client-facing positions, most recently as managing director and
head of Germany and Austria for Union Bancaire Privée. He has
also worked for Aberdeen Asset Managers Deutschland.
Eltoft is responsible for business development and consultant
relations activities across Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and
Iceland. He has more than 18 years of experience in institutional
sales and asset management. In his most recent role, Eltoft was
head of distribution for Franklin Templeton, focusing on
targeting institutional investors across the Nordic region.
Before that, he worked at Aberdeen Asset Management and Mercer in
senior business development roles.
Latitude Investment Management, a London-based boutique
investment partnership, appointed Gabriel Hull as an analyst.
Hull works across both the multi-asset Latitude Horizon Fund and
the Latitude Global Fund – the firm’s concentrated global equity
portfolio. He started his career at Fidelity International as an
equity analyst in the emerging markets team.
Moelis & Company, a global independent investment bank, appointed
Edouard Debost as a managing director. Based in Paris, he
provides financial advice to clients in France and across Europe.
He joined from JP Morgan where he was the head of the strategic
investment group for France and Benelux and head of private
client advisory for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Investec Wealth & Investments appointed Marc Wright as head of
entrepreneurs within its private office. Wright has over 12 years
of experience within investment management. He spent most of that
time with Barclays in a number of roles, but more recently as an
ultra-high net worth senior private banker, leading the Midlands
region for Barclays Private Bank.
Sustainable investment manager Downing appointed Karl Smith as a
partner in its energy and infrastructure team. Smith joined in
June from Macquarie Asset Management where he was a managing
director and led a team focused on a dedicated renewable energy
fund and broader energy transition activities in
Europe.
Offshore law firm Collas Crill appointed Chantelle Day as counsel
in its corporate, finance and funds team in Cayman. Day trained
and worked in a large Cayman Islands law firm for the first 12
years of her legal career and has spent four years practising
Irish law based in Dublin and London.
Private wealth law firm Boodle Hatfield appointed Nicola Bushby
to its its private client and tax department. Bushby, who joined
its Private Wealth Disputes team from Irwin Mitchell, specialises
in trust and estate litigation for individuals and families,
often involving complex capacity issues.
BNY Mellon Pershing appointed Colin Murphy as chief commercial
officer of its EMEA business. He joined the firm’s executive
committee in EMEA, and is based in London. Murphy has 25 years of
capital markets’ experience gained from numerous sales leadership
roles.
Stonehage Fleming appointed Natasha Newell as director of the
group’s family office team in Guernsey. She reports to Iris
Harvey, head of family office in Guernsey. Newell, who has
extensive experience of offshore trusts, has worked as a senior
lawyer for some of the world’s most prominent offshore law firms,
most recently for Carey Olsen. She began her career as a
competition lawyer in Brussels and subsequently qualified as an
English barrister.
Schroders made a number of leadership changes, naming Peter Hall
as chairman, Schroders Wealth Management and it appointed
Mary-Anne Daly as global head of wealth management. Hall is the
predecessor to Mary-Anne Daly’s role as global head of wealth.
Hall continued to sit on the board of both Cazenove Capital and
Benchmark as chair. Daly's responsibilities increased as global
head of wealth. Also, she now sits on the board in the Channel
Islands, Switzerland and Singapore.
Hall continues to oversee Schroders’ global wealth strategy and
chairs the Cazenove Capital and Benchmark boards. Daly also
chairs the boards of Schroders Channel Islands
Ltd, Schroders Bank AG, and Schroders Asia Ltd. Dominic
Emmerson became deputy CEO of Cazenove Capital.
Global investment company abrdn appointed Rene Buehlmann as sole
CEO of abrdn’s investments business. He is supported by Peter
Branner, the firm’s new chief investment officer who joined in
May, and Xavier Meyer, the firm’s chief client officer. Buehlmann
joined abrdn in 2021 as CEO of APAC and became the co-CEO of the
group’s investment business in June 2021.
Wealth Dynamix, the client lifecycle management solutions
provider, appointed Steve D’Souza as sales manager to lead and
expand the business in the UK, USA, Middle East, South Africa and
Scandinavia.
UK-based Progeny, which brings together independent financial
planning, asset management, tax, HR and legal services, appointed
Freya Robertson as chief of staff, reporting to CEO Neil Moles.
Previously, she spent four years as executive assistant to the
CEO. She is experienced at supporting Progeny's CEO and has been
involved with the management of numerous projects, including
recent acquisitions and the company's capital investment from
Further Global Capital Management.
The Openwork Partnership, a UK-based financial services network,
appointed Warren Vickers as commercial development director,
reporting into MD Stuart Dodson. Vickers was previously MD at
Tenet Compliance Services for the last two years. Prior to this,
he worked in a number of senior financial services roles in the
UK and Asia-Pacific, including TCC where he was the commercial
director with Exco responsibility.
Neuberger Berman hired Fekko Ebbens for the newly-created role of
head of institutional Benelux. Ebbens, who has over 27 years of
experience, joined from UBS Asset Management, where he was most
recently global head of institutional client coverage. Prior to
this, he covered institutional business development at Lombard
Odier Darier Hentsch. Ebbens reports to Matt Malloy, head of
global institutional client group, and Dik van Lomwel, head of
EMEA and Latin America. Cas Peters, the head of Benelux, stepped
into a senior advisor role and continued to provide guidance to
Neuberger Berman’s clients in the region.
Wealth and fund firm Tyndall Investment Management appointed
three people to join its private client practice. Mark
Jenkins and Dennis Cooper joined as investment directors, while
Joe Holland became assistant investment manager. They previously
worked at Walker Crips. Yvonne Shottle also moved to Tyndall from
Walker Crips as a secretary to the private client team. She has
more than 35 years’ experience within the financial services
industry, attending to the needs of private clients.
Close Brothers Asset Management appointed Adam Finlay as
investment manager, based in the firm’s Birmingham office. With
over 10 years’ experience in the wealth management sector, he
began his career at Capelin Financial Management, a local West
Midlands IFA firm, before joining Investec Wealth & Investment in
2016.
Wealth Manager Quilter Cheviot hired Margaret Schmitt as a
responsible investment analyst. She joined from infrastructure
consulting firm AECOM, where she was a climate and sustainability
consultant. Schmitt reports to Gemma Woodward, head of
responsible investment at Quilter Cheviot.
MSCI, a provider of decision-support tools and services for the
global investment community, appointed Ashley Lester as global
head of research and as a member of MSCI’s executive committee.
Based in London, Lester reports to Baer Pettit, president.
Previously, he spent eight years at Schroders in London, most
recently as the founding head of systematic
investments.
Crestbridge, a global administration, management and corporate
governance solutions business, appointed Paul Phelan as head of
Risk and Compliance – Ireland. Phelan was previously at another
Irish-regulated funds service provider where he had headed up the
compliance function in Ireland since 2012. Prior to that, he held
another senior level risk management and compliance position in
Ireland for a regulated funds service provider, and before that
he worked in a number of roles across the fund servicing
space.
Vistra Ireland, part of Vistra the global provider of advisory
and administrative support to fund, corporate, capital markets,
and private wealth clients, appointed Stephen McCormack as head
of securitisation and Brid Gurnett as commercial director. With
more than 20 years of experience in financial services, McCormack
has worked at Standard Bank and JP Morgan and corporate service
providers including Zedra and JTC Group where he advised UHNW
families, international corporates, and sovereign wealth funds
spanning many jurisdictions including Jersey, GCC, Africa and
South Asia. McCormack has considerable experience forming and
administering international private and corporate wealth
structures.
Manulife Investment Management, the global wealth and asset
management brand of Manulife, appointed Andrew Arnott as global
head of retail and Colin Fitzgerald as global head of
institutional.
They joined Aimee DeCamillo, global head of retirement, in
delivering Manulife’s wealth and asset management business. All
three report to Paul Lorentz, CEO, Manulife Investment
Management, and are members of the leadership team. Arnott is
based in Boston. Fitzgerald is based in London.
Citigroup appointed one of its longstanding managers, Andrew
James, as the Europe, Middle East and Africa head of Wealth at
Work. James has been at the US bank for 17 years.
UK-based Close Brothers Asset Management appointed Ed Mawle as
senior investment director. He is based in CBAM’s new office in
Cheltenham. Mawle has 25 years of experience in the asset and
wealth management industry, and spent almost 20 years at Brewin
Dolphin, before moving to Investec Wealth & Investment in
2017.
Law firm Charles Russell Speechlys appointed Simon Le Wita as a
partner within its Litigation and Dispute Resolution department.
Le Wita joined the firm’s Paris office from the business law
firm, De Pardieu Brocas Maffei.
International law firm Trowers & Hamlins recruited partner
Richard Jordan to join its private wealth team in London. Jordan
specialises in advising international and UK based ultra-high net
worth individuals and families on all aspects of UK tax,
succession and family governance. A significant part of his
practice relates to legal work for trustees, private bankers,
family offices and others within the private wealth management
sector.
Asia-Pacific
Capital Group appointed Angela Jin as head of financial intermediaries, Hong Kong. This is a newly-created role. Jin reports to Toby Chan, head of client group, Hong Kong and Greater China. She previously served as head of private banking, Hong Kong, at PIMCO, where she spent eight years building the firm's wealth management business in North Asia. Prior to that, she led MSCI’s ESG business with institutional clients for the Asia ex-Japan region.
BlackRock appointed Masato Sunaga as co-head of Japan client business. Having two decades of senior leadership experience in the Japanese market, Masato was most recently co-head of sales at Morgan Stanley Investment Management in Japan. He also served other large international and Japanese financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, Societe Generale and Daiwa Securities.
Matthews Asia, the San Francisco-based asset manager which focuses on Asia, appointed Beonca Yip as head of Asia-Pacific. Yip is responsible for overseeing the firm’s business in the Asia-Pacific region as well as leading its distribution activities, with a particular focus on the firm’s growing institutional business. Yip has over 28 years of experience in senior distribution leadership roles where she served both sophisticated institutional asset owners and advisory channel clients across the APAC region. Previously, as managing director, head of global client group based in Beijing, she led the distribution and client service teams at China Asset Management.
Credit Suisse appointed Matt Jin as executive director and relationship manager, based in Hong Kong, reporting to Shin-Yi Jeng, team leader for the China market. Jin, who has over 20 years’ investment banking experience, is switching to the private banking side. Jin headed up the investment and financing team in CMBC International Holdings Ltd for five years. Before that, he worked at Mirae Asset Securities for over 10 years as the team head of Greater China coverage in investment banking.
Tishman Speyer, an owner, developer, operator and investment manager of real estate which is present in 33 key markets across the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America, appointed real estate investment professional Jerry Hyunjae Park as senior director of acquisitions for its recently-established office in Seoul, South Korea. Park reports to managing director, Graham Mackie, who was appointed in June 2022 to spearhead Tishman Speyer’s Asia Pacific expansion beyond its operations in China and India.
HSBC appointed Kai Zhang as head of wealth and personal banking, South Asia. Based in Singapore, Zhang. Greg Hingston was in the role ad interim until it was filled. Before this, Zhang was chief executive at Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Company from 2016. She has more than 25 years of financial services experience in North America and Asia where she has held leadership posts at Citigroup and McKinsey & Company. Zhang reports to Nuno Matos, CEO, WPB, and Surendra Rosha, co-CEO, Asia-Pacific.
Hong Kong-listed Sun Hung Kai & Co appointed Gary Chan as managing director in its investment management business. Chan, who joined the firm in April 2023, has more than 25 years in alternative investment and investment banking experience. Prior to this, Chan led the investments and banking team at Mirae Asset (Hong Kong), investing across a number of sectors including healthcare, technology, new energy, new consumer and real estate. Previously, he worked at Barclays, Macquarie and ICBC International.
Franklin Templeton appointed Nicholas Chui as senior vice president, portfolio manager within Franklin Templeton Emerging Markets Equity’s China investment team. Chui takes a leading role in managing China equity strategies, and took over from Michael Lai, portfolio manager at Franklin Templeton Emerging Markets Equity, who retired. Based in Hong Kong, Chui reports to Sukumar Rajah, senior managing director, director of portfolio management for Franklin Templeton Emerging Markets Equity.
Chui was previously at BlackRock, where he had been a portfolio manager of its China equity strategy since 2020. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at abrdn, most recently serving as deputy head of its Hong Kong/China Equity team and lead manager of its China A shares equity strategy.
Citigroup appointed Sharad Mohan as head of international personal bank for Singapore, reporting to Shyam Sambamurthy, international head of Citigold and Citigold private client, and Tibor Pandi, Citi country officer for Singapore. Mohan, with almost 30 years of experience in consumer banking and wealth management at Citi to his new role, served in consumer banking and wealth management roles across Singapore and India. He joined Citi as a management associate and was most recently head of retail banking for Citi India.
BNP Paribas Wealth Management appointed Marc Kermaidic as its new chief operating officer for its Asian wealth arm. He succeeded Long Doan who took up a new role within the bank. Based in Singapore, Kermaidic reports directly to Arnaud Tellier, Asia CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, and functionally to Pierre Vincent, COO and chief transformation officer of BNP Paribas Wealth Management.
Law firm Sullivan & Cromwell appointed Jacqueline Wenchen Tang as a partner to strengthen the firm’s financing and restructuring capabilities for clients across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. Tang is based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Tang advises corporate, credit fund, private equity and financial institution clients on a broad range of restructuring and financing matters. As a strategist for distressed situations in China and elsewhere in Asia, Tang has experience of navigating complex, cross-border debt restructurings and liability management transactions.
Alpadis Group, the Switzerland-based fiduciary services group, appointed former Ocorian senior figure John Tan as new managing director of its business in Singapore. With 19 years of experience in trust and fiduciary planning and administration, Tan was previously managing director at Ocorian’s Singapore office, and started his career at HSBC Trustee Singapore in 2004, subsequently working with an international French bank and a Swiss private bank.
abrdn made Rene Buehlmann the sole CEO of abrdn’s investments business. He is supported by Peter Branner, the firm’s new chief investment officer who joined in May, and Xavier Meyer, the firm’s chief client officer who oversees strategy in the UK and EMEA region. Buehlmann joined abrdn in 2021 as CEO of APAC and became the co-CEO of the group’s investment business in 2021 June. He continues to lead abrdn’s APAC business and be based in Asia.
ThomasLloyd, an independent impact investment solutions provider, advisor and asset manager, appointed Duncan Black as its new head of portfolio and asset management. Based in Singapore, Black reports directly to the recently-appointed CIO, Nadir Maruf.
In his previous role as managing director for Asia Infrastructure Investors, Black advised renewable energy businesses in Asia on greenfield development, M&A, financing, and asset management. In previous roles, Black was co-head of infrastructure at Eastspring Investments (Prudential Corporation’s asset management business in Asia); a founding partner of Daestrum Capital (a Singapore-based infrastructure funds manager); head of acquisitions, infrastructure at Deutsche Asset Management Asia; and CFO of CLP Holdings’ Australian vertically-integrated utility business (now EnergyAustralia), among other senior management positions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.
Citi Global Wealth Investments in Singapore appointed Amanda Lee as Asia-Pacific head of third-party manager solutions. Lee reports to Julie Koo, global head of third-party manager solutions, Citi Global Wealth Investments. Prior to this, Lee worked at JP Morgan Private Bank where she was most recently Asia managed solutions specialist. She has served in various roles at JP Morgan Private Bank including investment marketing, mutual fund specialist and managed fixed income specialist. Before JP Morgan, Lee worked at Eastspring Asset Management for seven years where her roles included leading distribution sales for Malaysia, investment marketing and regional business development in Singapore. She also worked at HSBC in Malaysia, as well as Citi in Malaysia.
Global investment manager Cohen & Steers appointed Abhi Shroff as senior vice president and head of institutional distribution, Asia-Pacific. Shroff reports to Marc Haynes, senior vice president and head of international institutional distribution. Shroff, who has more than 20 years of financial services experience, most recently served as head of the institutional business, Asia ex-Japan, at Dimensional Fund Advisors. Prior to joining Dimensional Fund Advisors in 2019, he was executive vice president, head of South Asia at PIMCO.
Muzinich & Co, the privately owned investment firm specialising
in public and private corporate credit, named Akihiro Hayashi as
country head, Japan and Tokio Morita as senior advisor. Hayashi
joined from Barings Japan where he spent eight years as a member
of institutional sales. He has more than 25 years’ industry
experience with a strong focus on servicing, planning and
business development for pension funds (corporate and public) and
financial institutions. Morita spent over 36 years at the
Ministry of Finance and the Japanese Financial Services Agency in
a variety of roles, most recently as Vice Minister for
International Affairs, Financial Services Agency.
Union Bancaire Privée appointed Andrew Chin as team head, North
Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Chin reports to Ivan Wong, region head
North Asia and chief executive Hong Kong. Chin was most recently
desk head - UHNW Hong Kong at HSBC Global Private Banking, where
he managed a team of senior relationship managers and worked
closely with institutional family offices in Asia. Prior to that,
he was head of investment counselling, also at HSBC Global
Private Banking, covering Hong Kong, the Philippines and
international markets.
Julius Baer appointed Aline Pacheco as team head, South East Asia. She reports to Yang Vi Sun, group head of South East Asia. Pacheco is a veteran wealth management and investment advisory professional with more than 25 years of experience. She joined from UBS where she led client teams focusing on the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia markets. At UBS, she was also head of investment advisory teams in Singapore and Hong Kong, and head of capital markets equities.
M&G Real Estate appointed Jason Leong as deputy fund manager of its flagship core Asia Pacific property strategy. Based in Singapore, Leong reports to Richard van den Berg, manager of the strategy. Leong has more than 25 years of real estate investment and management experience in Asia Pacific, including markets such as Australia, Japan and Singapore where he worked for various multinational organisations. Most recently, he was group executive and head of investment management at Investa in Sydney, responsible for the group’s fund management, separate mandates and asset management businesses.
Law firm Harneys appointed one of its senior figures, Paul Sephton, as a managing partner in Hong Kong. Sephton, who joined Harneys in 2016, heads the firm’s global banking and finance and corporate groups. He advises onshore law firms, major international financial institutions, and listed and private companies. After taking on the role of Asia managing partner in 2018, Ian Mann stepped down to focus on his practice as a partner within the firm’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring team in Hong Kong.
Morningstar Sustainalytics, which provides ESG research, ratings
and data, appointed Sylviane Carot as the head of Asia-Pacific
ESG Alliances & Redistribution. With more than 19 years of
experience in the financial services space, Carot has experience
in the ESG industry, having previously worked for 13 years at
MSCI.
North America
Private wealth advisor David Sproles joined the independent channel of Ameriprise Financial, from Edward Jones in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with over $100 million in client assets. His son, Houston Sproles, joined the practice as a financial planning assistant and as his eventual successor. Another joiner was Andrea Meade, who has supported the team as practice manager and client support for nearly nine years. The team is supported locally by Ameriprise regional vice president Trish Moll and senior franchise field vice president George Varones.
Edward Jones welcomed financial advisor Warren Anderson, who is based in Littleton, Colorado. He has worked in the sector for 25 years. Anderson previously managed $375 million in client assets and was a wealth advisor with Charles Schwab, working with retail investors. Prior to that, he was a financial consultant at Charles Schwab, advising clients on a broad range of financial matters.
EP Wealth Advisors, the US wealth manager overseeing $18.7 billion in assets, announced that Ryan Parker, president of the firm, had moved to the CEO role. Before that, the chief executive was Patrick Goshtigian, who had been in the post since 2011, and became executive chairman.
Amwell Ridge Wealth Management, a US firm led by managing partner David Johnston, affiliated with Bleakley Financial Group. Johnston, who has worked in the sector for 27 years, provides financial planning for affluent families throughout Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He primarily works with people aged 55 and older looking for ways to ensure a smooth retirement.
JP Morgan Private Bank created South and Midwest Regions within its broader Central Region.
The South Region is led by Pete Chilian, region head, and Clinton Warren, region head of investments and advice. The Midwest Region is led by Neal Gram, region head, and Jeramey Lynch, region head of investments and advice. As for the Central Region, its CEO is Elaine Agather.
In his new role, Chilian directs more than 200 bankers and wealth advisors across nine cities. With two decades at JP Morgan, Chilian spent 11 years in his prior role as Dallas market manager.
Warren has more than two decades of investment experience at the US bank; he leads more than 40 investors across the South Region to deliver advice on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and manager selection across both public and private markets. Before joining the Dallas private banking team, he managed the multinational corporate banking division for JP Morgan's Southwest region.
Gram leads more than 175 bankers and wealth advisors across eight offices. Most recently, he oversaw several of the region's existing offices and previously led its Michigan market. Lynch oversees more than 45 investment specialists to engage with institutional clients, families, and foundations, addressing the unique requirements of significant assets.
As part of the changes, Maggie O'Brien and Charlie Cooper were appointed to co-lead the private bank's greater Chicago market, including nearly 100 bankers across two locations, downtown Chicago and Winnetka. Together, O'Brien and Cooper will report to Gram.
Fiduciary Trust International appointed two senior figures – a new MD responsible for its New York office and a national fiduciary counsel. It named Anne Fitzpatrick Donahue as its new regional managing director responsible for the New York office. Paulina Mejia, who previously managed the office, moved to a new role as national fiduciary counsel, where she serves the firm’s largest clients, as well as clients with the most complex needs. Mejia reports to Gail E Cohen, chair of Fiduciary Trust International’s board of directors and general trust counsel, and is also responsible for attorney outreach. Donahue reports to Gene Todd, executive vice president and head of regional markets. She was most recently senior managing director at Northern Trust, where she was based in the firm’s New York and Connecticut offices and led one of its two Greater New York teams.
Raymond James welcomed financial advisors Meghan Foley and Anthony Anderson to Raymond James & Associates (RJA) – the firm’s employee advisor channel. Based in Broadview Heights, Ohio, the advisors operate as Shultz Group of Raymond James and work with senior client service associate Rani Thakkar. The group was previously affiliated with Merrill Lynch, where they managed approximately $230 million in client assets.
The firm also welcomed financial advisors John Piotrowski, Richard Holsan and Scott Gribbons to its independent advisor channel. As Leeward Financial Group in Lighthouse Point, Florida, the advisors were joined by practice business coordinator, Doreen Gest, and client services manager, Janice Leechalk. Previously, the team was affiliated with Ameriprise Financial Services where it managed more than $475 million in client assets.
Raymond James welcomed financial advisors James Reynolds and Joseph Andrews to its employee advisor channel in Worcester, Massachusetts. The advisor duo, who operate as Reynolds Andrews Wealth Advisors of Raymond James, are joined by senior client service associate Elizabeth Garrido. The advisors previously managed more than $250 million in client assets at Merrill Lynch.
Foley is a 22-year veteran of the financial services industry. She is a Certified Plan Fiduciary AdvisorTM, a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® certificant and holds the Certified Financial PlannerTM designation. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Anderson began his career as a wealth manager and financial planner in 2010 at LM Kohn & Company. He subsequently spent over a decade with Merrill Lynch, earning the company’s portfolio manager qualification. Anderson is a Certified Plan Fiduciary AdvisorTM and holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation, backed by a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, aka KKR, the investment firm with $504 billion in AuM as at the end of 2022, said its KREST fund named Julia Butler as chief investment officer. (“KREST” stands for KKR Real Estate Select Trust.) Butler, who joined KKR in 2017, is a managing director on the real estate team. Prior to joining KKR, she was an executive vice president at iStar, a publicly-traded real estate investment trust, where she was responsible for sourcing, managing and executing on new investment opportunities in the US and Europe.
KKR, named Dan Pietrzak as global head of private credit. Pietrzak has more than 20 years of investment experience. Most recently he served as co-head of private credit with Matthieu Boulanger, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Argent Financial Group, a US-based wealth manager, appointed Charles Denison as senior portfolio manager. Denison, who is based in Argent’s Fort Worth office, is responsible for managing personal and institutional client portfolios. Denison reports directly to Alan Tarver, senior vice president and senior portfolio manager. Prior to joining Argent, Denison most recently served as director of investments and corporate development at Virtuoso. He also previously served as the principal and chief investment officer at the Diesslin Group.
Boston-headquartered multi-family office Choate Hall & Stewart announced the appointment of a team from Ropes & Gray’s private client practice. The partners are Marc J Bloostein, Cameron Casey, Kimberly E Cohen, Jennifer S Ewing and Geoffrey M Mason.
CIBC Private Wealth, US, made four appointments:

relationship manager;
-- Robert Johnson was named senior vice president and business
development officer in Austin;
-- Ryan Smith was named senior vice president and senior
relationship manager in Austin; and
-- Geoff Nelson was named senior vice president and business

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery added three people in its private client practice group: partner Anita Rosenbloom, counsel John Kiely in New York, and partner Jay Scharf in Miami. They joined from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, where Rosenbloom served as chair of the Private Client Services Group.
Yieldstreet, the private market investing platform, appointed Ted Yarbrough as its chief investment officer. Yarbrough has nearly three decades of experience gained at Citigroup and its predecessor companies, serving in a variety of leadership roles across the firm’s banking, markets, and lending businesses. During his tenure, he served as chief investment officer of global spread products, global head of structured products, global head of structured finance, and most recently as global co-head of institutional credit management.
Jacmel Growth Partners, a minority-owned, private investment firm, appointed Mark Hardaway as chief financial officer. The role is a newly-created one. Hardaway, who has 15 years of experience in senior finance positions across a range of companies, is also a business owner. He was previously a senior treasury officer at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to that he worked at Amgen, Inc. in a variety of roles of rising seniority for nearly seven years based in Zug, Vienna, Prague and Thousand Oaks, California.
The Family Office at Synovus, a multi-family office based in Columbus, Georgia, appointed Walt Deriso as senior director of strategic growth and family office solutions. Based in Atlanta, Deriso leads The Family Office at Synovus’s initiative to enhance the scope of services and solutions offered to ultra-high net worth families with a particular focus on single-family offices. He is based in the Atlanta office at 3400 Overton Park. Deriso began his career in 1999 at the Family Office at Synovus, serving in different roles including director of relationship management. In 2006, he became a founding shareholder at Atlantic Capital Bank in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked as a private banker, commercial banker, and eventually as the head of the family office practice.
B Capital, the investment firm with dual headquarters in the US and Singapore, appointed Don Wood as a venture partner focused on climate tech. Wood, who is based in the US, brings over 25 years of experience as a venture capitalist and climate tech specialist to his new role.
Cincinnati-based DayMark Wealth Partners brought in a team of advisors who previously worked with Wells Fargo Advisors. The team – Rodney Twells, Andrew Sikorovsky, and Joseph Schmidt – operate as the Compass Group of DayMark Wealth Partners. Besides Daymark, it now also works with Dynasty Financial Partners. The team also includes Kimberly Fitzgerald (senior director – client relations), Jacquelyn Gibbons (director – client relations), and Karen Suskowicz (director – client relations).
Neuberger Berman appointed Shannon Saccocia in the newly-created role of chief investment officer, NB Private Wealth. Saccocia has more than 20 years of experience in the investment management industry, including the last 10 years where she served in senior investment leadership roles primarily with Boston Private Wealth. Most recently, Shannon was the chief investment officer for SVB Private (which acquired Boston Private Wealth in July 2021). Previously, she had senior roles at Banyan Partners and Silver Bridge Advisors focusing on manager selection and portfolio construction.
Fairport Wealth, a Cleveland, Ohio-based Hightower advisory business, appointed Mike Drennen as its chief wealth officer. He has day-to-day and executive leadership responsibilities previously overseen by Matt Logar, who was named CEO. Before joining Fairport, Drennen worked at Hightower Advisors, Fairport’s parent company, as an executive director on the advisor engagement team. Prior to joining Hightower, Drennen served as vice president of business consulting at Carson Group and spent eight years at Fidelity Investments, most notably as a member of the National Accounts relationship management team.
Certuity, the business formerly known as Camden Capital, appointed Daniel J Lee as partner, chief revenue officer and wealth advisor. Prior to joining Certuity, Lee spent 10 years at First Republic Bank, most recently as a senior managing director and wealth advisor. Prior to First Republic Bank, Lee was a private client advisor at US Trust, where he provided counsel on investment strategy, asset allocation, estate planning, and multi-generational wealth transfer planning to HNW individuals, families, foundations, and endowments.
Cresset, the US wealth management group, appointed Liz Nesvold as president. In this newly-created role, Nesvold oversees the firm’s strategy and offerings. She works alongside co-founders Eric Becker and Avy Stein. Nesvold is a founder CEO herself, having launched and built investment bank Silver Lane Advisors with several partners, including her husband, Peter Nesvold.
Emigrant Partners appointed one of its senior figures, Jenny Souza, as president and chief executive officer. Souza joined the firm as managing director and head of strategic advisor in May 2019. Prior to joining Emigrant Partners, Souza was a member of the senior team at publicly traded BrightSphere Investment Group, a $200 billion multi-boutique asset management company.
Heritage Trust Company appointed Kathy Lee Hatchett as vice president, relationship manager. She is responsible for assisting clients in a variety of areas, including trusts, probate and estate planning, and administration. Hatchett, who reports to Michael Romero, president, has nearly three decades of experience in investment and estate planning. Previously, he served as vice president of estate planning for The Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma and as an investment advisor representative for Hughes Warren.
US-based Turing Technology Associates, an AI-driven financial technology and intellectual property company, appointed Robert D Nestor as senior managing director and chief commercialization officer. Nestor worked for more than 16 years at Vanguard, covering mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, institutional markets, and managing strategy and business development. He then spent over a decade at Blackrock focusing on the ETF/iShares business, culminating as business head for the iShares Factors segment. Nestor also spent three years as president and head of Direxion Investments.
