March Gestión de Fondos, the asset managemnt arm of Spain’s Banca March, has appointed Antonio Lopez Silvestre as equities fund manager responsible for the selection of Spanish and European companies, as the firm seeks to gain a foothold in the UK market.

March Gestión de Fondos, the asset management arm of Spain’s Banca March, has appointed Antonio Lopez Silvestre as equities fund manager responsible for the selection of Spanish and European companies.

Silvestre will form part of the management team for the  March Valores Iberian Equities, March Vini Catena and The Family Businesses funds.

He joins from Exane BNP Paribas, where he was equity research analyst and head of Spanish midcaps.

Before this, he was head of research and an equity research analyst at Fortis Bank in Spain.

March Gestión currently distributes its investment funds in Austria, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg and the UK; the appointment comes as the firm seeks to gain a foothold in the UK market. Last year, the firm registered three funds in the UK, including one which invests in wine.

March Vini Catena is the world’s first global equity fund to invest solely in the wine industry. It was launched in Spain over three years ago and has attracted over €100 million ($130.5 million) from investors. The Family Business fund is a global equity fund that has attracted over €30 million since its launch at the end of 2011. The third fund is the Torrenova fund, which has over €700 million in its assets under management and aims to outperform inflation by 2 per cent.
