Spain is looking at setting up a minimum threshold of €100,000 ($130,000) for individual and institutional investments in hedge funds. The country’s economy secretary David Vegara told journalists that in principle the minimum investment would be around €100,000. The regulations, which provide the details to a 2003 law, aim to make it easier to provide services and to reinforce protection for investors, Mr Vegara said, adding that the regulations were in their final stages of preparation. He also said the government would relax demands for high-risk funds to draw up monthly reports and might even eliminate the requirement.
