Smith Barney names new Consulting Group head

Tracy takes over directorship of the wirehouse’s managed-asset group. Smith Barney has made James Tracy director of its Consulting Group. That puts him in charge of all aspects of the broker-dealer’s managed-money business, including research, marketing, product management and advisor training. He now reports to Paul Hatch, director of investment-advisory services.

A 17-year veteran of Smith Barney, Tracy had been director of the firm's Great Lakes region, “the area ranked number one in fee-based assets,” according to the brokerage.

A believer

Hatch describes Tracy as “a strong believer in a client-focused wealth management and consulting process” who “has without a doubt demonstrated exceptional leadership skills within the fee-based business.”

Phil Shaffer, an institutional consultant at Smith Barney expanded on that assessment in a press release. “First and foremost, Jim is a great leader,” says Shaffer. “[He] thinks outside of the box to get things done, and has a deep understanding and significant appreciation for the Consulting Group process.”

Smith Barney is the brokerage division of Citigroup. –FWR
