A partner in the asset management arm of Goldman Sachs, Jason Gottleib, is leaving the Wall Street-headquartered firm, according to Reuters, citing an internal memo it has seen.

Gottlieb, one of four portfolio managers on the Goldman Sachs Multi-Manager Alternatives Fund, is to leave the firm in August, the report said. The news service said a spokesperson for Goldman Sachs confirmed the memo’s contents but did not elaborate on why Gottleib has left the business.

The Multi-Manager Alternatives Fund allows retail investors to gain exposure to alternative investments, such as hedge funds, through a mutual fund. The report noted that it has returned 1.9 per cent since the beginning of the year, ahead of the compared 0.2 per cent result for the HFRX Global Hedge Fund Index but behind 5.8 per cent for the S&P 500 index of shares.

The report said fund will continue to be managed by Kent Clark, Ryan Roderick and Betsy Gorton.

Gottlieb joined Goldman in 1996 and has worked in various roles, including its risk department.
