Senior Fund Manager Departs UK's Liontrust

Gary West has retired from London-listed Liontrust Asset Management in order to explore opportunities outside of the funds industry.

West, who has co-led the asset management house’s cashflow solution investment team with James Inglis-Jones for the past seven years, was co-manager on a number of the firm’s funds including the £294 million ($461.3 million) fund.

Inglis-Jones is now the sole head of the team, the firm said, confirming that no further changes will be made to its fund management team. Liontrust hired Samantha Gleave last year to work on the team as part of the succession plan for West’s retirement.

“We appointed Gleave as part of the succession plan and the speed at which she has integrated into the team and the company has enabled us to bring forward West’s retirement,”  said Liontrust chief executive John Ions.

West joined Liontrust from Polar Capital in 2006, having previously held roles at Touche Remnant, Henderson, Fleming Investment Management and JP Morgan Fleming. Inglis-Jones also joined in the same year from Polar, while Gleave worked with both fund managers at Fleming Investment Management. She was previously a senior equity analyst and director at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch and also worked at Credit Suisse First Boston.

As of 25 March 2013, Liontrust Asset Management managed £3 billion ($4.6 billion) in UK, European and Asian equities and global credit.
