Senior BlackRock Equities Manager Departs To Start His Own Business Funding Company

A senior London-based equities manager at the world’s biggest listed investment firm is off to create his own business funding start-ups and early-stage firms.

Gary Clarke is leaving BlackRock, the US-listed investment giant, after being at the business for two years, it confirmed. Clarke served as BlackRock’s London-based global equity team head and co-head of the global equity platform. 

“I have decided it is time for an exciting new beginning,” Clarke said in a post titled "A New Chapter –Going Solo" found on his LinkedIn page. 

In the post, published 29 February, Clarke announced a new venture where he will focus on “funding start-up and early stage businesses in the UK and Europe.” It also says that he will be managing money for a select group of clients with long term investment horizons. 

Clarke has over 20 years of experience in managing investment funds. 

Tom Callan will now head BlackRock’s global equity platform and Stuart Reeve has been appointed as head of the London-based global equity team, the firm told this publication. 

“We thank Gary for his contribution to the firm and wish Tom and Stuart every success in their expanded roles,” it said in a statement sent to WealthBriefing

According to latest published data, BlackRock has $4.6 trillion of assets under management.
