Schroders Makes Duo Of Hires For UK Equity Team

Schroders has appointed Philip Matthews and Alex Breese as fund managers in its UK equity team.
Matthews, who joins Schroders from Jupiter Asset Management, where he was latterly a fund manager on the Jupiter Growth and Income Fund, will be responsible for the Schroder UK Alpha Plus Fund.
Matthews will take on the responsibilities of Richard Buxton as manager of the UK Alpha Plus Fund. Last month, Schroders confirmed that Buxton, head of equities, had resigned after 12 years at the firm, to take on the role of head of UK equities at Old Mutual Global Investors.
Breese joins Schroders from Neptune Investment Management, where he served as head of UK equities and fund manager on the Neptune UK Special Situations Fund. At Schroders, Breese will be responsible for the Schroder UK Equity and Schroder ISF UK Equity funds.
Breese will replace Errol Francis, co-manager of the £648 million (around $987 billion) Schroder UK Equity Fund, who has also resigned from Schroders to join Old Mutual Global Investors.
Schroders had £212.0 billion (€261.3 billion, $344.5 billion) under management at end-December 2012. The firm's private banking arm, meanwhile, has been shortlisted for an award in the WealthBriefing Awards 2013 event to be held on 2 May in London.
