Schroders Employs JV Model To Build Thailand Wealth Business

The UK-based group, which is in the process of being acquired by US-headquartered Nuveen, has embraced the joint venture approach for Thailand wealth management, joining other firms taking this route.
Schroders has
partnered with ttb wealth
securities, a subsidiary of TMBThanachart
Bank to develop a wealth and investment management
proposition for high net worth and ultra-HNW clients in
Thailand.
The businesses will create a joint “investment forum” to pool and
exchange insights.
Schroders and ttb wealth securities will assess market
developments, draw on global asset-allocation perspectives and
develop discretionary investment solutions for ttb wealth
securities’ private wealth clients, starting with a bespoke
global multi-asset portfolio, the firms said.
Several private banks and wealth managers, such as Julius Baer,
have tapped rising affluence in the Southeast Asian nation via
the joint venture and partnership route. Julius Baer, for
example, operates a JV called SCB-Julius Baer Securities Co.
DBS Bank has partnered with its Thailand securities business.
That partnership brought together DBS Bank and DBS Vickers
Securities (Thailand).
UK-headquartered Schroders continues to build its Asia business.
For example, in mid-July, it appointed
Peter Flavel as chair and independent non-executive director of
the board of Schroder & Co (Asia) Limited. Flavel served in
senior leadership roles across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and
the Americas. He established Standard Chartered’s global Private
Bank and later served as CEO of JP Morgan Private Wealth
Management for Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore. Most recently,
he was CEO of Coutts in the UK, part of NatWest Group, leaving in
July 2023.
Centuries
“Schroders brings more than 200 years of experience investing
through changing markets and supporting the evolving needs of our
clients. Our longstanding presence in Asia has given us a deep
understanding of the region and its diversity,” Katherine Cox,
head of client group, South Asia and Global Official
Institutions, Schroders, said.
Saranya Phuphatana, CEO, ttb wealth securities, said: “Investment
decisions have become increasingly complex for Thai clients.
Markets are more volatile, a growing share of the opportunity
sits outside Thailand, and remaining entirely domestic is no
longer a neutral position. What clients need is a stronger
conviction behind the choices they make. Partnering with
Schroders gives our advisors direct access to global investment
expertise and insights, enabling us to deliver more robust and
comprehensive wealth solutions tailored to the evolving needs of
Thai investors.”
Earlier in July, Schroders Wealth Management, including Cazenove
Capital, launched
a new global wealth advisory service aimed at ultra-HNW clients.
The offering officially launched first in the UK and Switzerland
and will be rolled out in Asia later in 2026.
