Revealed: This Year's Most Expensive Bar Tab

While most of us will have spent the beginning of January nursing hangovers and pledging frugality, for some, the New Year's Eve celebrations were only the beginning.
What could be the priciest bar bill spent so far this year was racked up on 2 January 2012, by a group celebrating a birthday at the Cavalli Club, in Dubai's ultra-exclusive Fairmont Hotel.
The bill amounted to an eye-watering Dh387,988 ($105,431), which included a six-litre of Cristal, the most expensive champagne in the world, for Dh125,000 and a slice of cake for Dh120. Additional orders for two 2-litre bottles of Cristal and 13 bottles of Roederer Cristal were made in the early hours, as well as Red Bulls, diet Cokes, 4 bottles of Chivas and a 3-litre bottle of Cavalli vodka.
The Gulf News compared the bill to the list price of two Porsche Cayennes. The publication was able to speak to a staff at the club who had confirmed the authenticity of the bill but declined to identify the spender.
A photo of the bill went viral on social media network Twitter, leaving people in awe at how much wealth there is in the Middle East, according to media reports.
The 4,490 ultra high net worth individuals in the Middle East are nearly equivalent to the UHNW population in Brazil, with $675 billion of assets, according to intelligence provider Wealth-X. Saudi Arabia, where the economy is forecast to grow 6.5 per cent this year up from 4.1 per cent last year, has the largest share of UHNW individuals.
