Yesterday’s Financial Times annual survey on global private banking attracted just one ad from a private bank: Credit Agricole Private Bank. Despite many articles in the survey saying how fast the sector is growing, that apparently is not feeding through into advertising. The usual suspects such as UBS and Credit Suisse, both of which have advertising extensively in the last year, were nowhere to be seen. “Private banks were probably reluctant to advertise due to the perception that such a supplement was only likely to be read by their peers, not the clients they are going after,” said a London-based wealth management analysts. “Still, you would of expected some more advertising than this.” Could this be a “straw in the wind” for the future state of private banking?
