Phoenix names sales head for high-end life insurance

Cassidy replaces Primmer as head of “individual life” sales. Asset management and insurance underwriter Phoenix has named Edward Cassidy to run its life-insurance sales group. He joins the firm from Principal Financial, where he was senior v.p. for individual life insurance. He will lead regional wholesalers and a national sales staff who support a network of independent advisors.
Cassidy is replacing Robert Primmer, who left Phoenix a few months ago.
Calling Cassidy “a seasoned life insurance executive who brings to Phoenix a wealth of experience in both distribution and product manufacturing,” Dona Young, chairman, president and CEO of Phoenix adds that “he is widely respected as a leader in the industry for getting results and being a team player” and “a fine addition” to Phoenix’ management team.
Cassidy led Principal Financial’s individual life-insurance business, a role that put him in charge of product development, marketing, risk management, actuarial, finance, underwriting, IT systems and services. Phoenix’s life-insurance products are primarily aimed at business owners, corporate executives, affluent and high-net-worth individuals and families. In 2005, Phoenix's total life sales grew by 33 per cent, to $192.5 million, and Cassidy will be instrumental in ensuring that that growth rate is maintained and enhanced.
Hartford, Conn.-based Phoenix recently changed its marketing name from “Phoenix Wealth Management” to “Phoenix Companies.” –FWR
