October Brings Extreme Volatility To An End - Cofunds Investment Flow Data

Retail fund net inflows and outflows stabilised in October after four months of volatility, according to the latest figures from platform provider Cofunds.

Mixed Investment 20-60 per cent share funds took the top spot, overtaking Strategic Bonds, accounting for 32 per cent of net sales in October. Global Equity Income (16 per cent) and Global Bond (11 per cent) sectors also remained in favour in October. North America accounted for 9 per cent of retail net sales.

Many sectors saw less dramatic outflows in October than in previous months, although UK All Companies still accounted for 17 per cent of net outflows. Other out of favour sectors were Specialist and UK Equity Income, accounting for-15 per cent and -10 per cent respectively.

“October has shown early signs of the volatility stabilising since Q3. The sectors which have been out of favour this year such as UK All Cap, UK Equity Income and Europe have seen outflows stemming somewhat and some funds in these sectors are now doing well,” said Michelle Woodburn, head of fund group relations at Cofunds.
