New White Papers Explore Data Hosting, Tracking Options

In cases where confidentiality of client information is paramount, web hosting of data is preferable to cloud computing – despite being less energy efficient – according to a recent white paper from Archway Technology Partners, a software provider to the investment management industry.

The white paper, Web Hosting vs Cloud Computing, outlines the main points to consider when assessing the best way to host data. For example, cloud computing, while less secure, offers scalability and affordability – an appealing combination for budget-conscious companies, says Archway.

Meanwhile, firms must rid themselves of an “addiction” to Microsoft Excel, the technology firm says in a related white paper, Excel Is Not A Database. Excel is a “great tool” but “misunderstood and misused,” the paper states.

“Managing your data can be complicated enough without having to use ancillary methods of data tracking and numerous spreadsheets to see the big picture,” says Archway, in a paper that explores the productivity of various data tracking mechanisms.
