New Web Platforms Launched to Rank Investment Funds

Private investors are getting new tools to compare funds online with the launch of two web-based portfolio rating platforms. Guernsey-based Asset Risk Consultants has launched www.fundfact.com, a website aimed at private investors as well as financial advisors. Meanwhile, Old Broad Street Research, a UK investment research business, has launched its updated version of its Funds Rating website (www.obsrfundratings.co.uk), with an expanded funds range, charting tools and factsheets. ARC’s product includes a table of the entire universe of UK Income Equity Funds, based on the classification used by the UK’s Investment Management Association. ARC says the website allows users to see how funds rank against their peers based on certain criteria or selected combinations of these different yardsticks, rather than according to a single criteria, such as the percentage growth of a fund. Data is drawn from Lipper, the fund research company owned by Reuters, and has been developed in association with Liontrust, the UK asset management boutique. OBSR’s fund platform will classify multi-manager funds, saying this represents a ground-breaking product. “The proliferation of multi-manager funds means that a tool which enables like-for-like comparison is long overdue. There are now more than 260 multi-manager funds to choose from, Nigel Whittingham, development director, OBSR, said.
