Moneta Group Targets UK's US Expat Market

The US-registered investment advisor, which oversees more than $50 billion, has partnered with a UK business to serve Americans living, working and investing on both sides of the Atlantic.
Moneta
Group Investment Advisors has launched Moneta Global Wealth
to expand its international services. It is partnering with
Thomson Tyndall, a London-based financial planning and investment
management firm.
The service is aimed at US-based clients planning to live,
work or retire abroad, American expatriates in the UK and
elsewhere, and international family offices with US investment
interests.
Moneta Group said the partnership combines its scale and
fiduciary framework with Thomson Tyndall's UK planning
expertise.
Thomson Tyndall was founded in London in 2016, with roots dating
to the 1960s. The firm provides financial planning and investment
management to private clients, families, charities and business
owners.
The tie-up adds to a growing roster of UK firms building out
services for Americans abroad, a market that includes Arbuthnot
Latham's Global Direct Service,
announced a few days ago; Canaccord Wealth's
US-focused model portfolios; and specialist cross-border
advisors MASECO – being acquired by Creative Planning,
an RIA. Another firm in the sector is LeifBridge, a
subsidiary of Shard Capital. Schroders has also built
capabilities in the space.
US citizens living overseas remain subject to IRS reporting and
tax rules regardless of residence, prompting some financial
institutions to cease serving them as clients. The situation
intensified when the FATCA legislation was enacted in late
2010 by the Obama administration. Groups such as American
Citizens Abroad, an advocacy and networking group for expats,
have lobbied
Congress and other policymakers to shift the US towards a
territorial tax code, instead of the current worldwide one.
Almost all countries operate a territorial tax regime, making the
US an outlier.
