May Was Best Hedge Fund Month This Year - Credit Suisse Index
The Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index did well in May 2008, according to Oliver Schupp, president of Credit Suisse Index.
Mr Schupp said: “The Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index finished up two per cent in May, which is the highest monthly return we’ve seen this year. Despite tightened credit conditions in the financial sector, hedge funds have continued to generate positive performance across strategies. We estimate that each of the ten hedge fund sectors will end May with gains for the month, with Long/Short Equity being the highest performing sector.”
The index comprised 481 funds at 31 May 2008 and represents at least 85 per cent of total assets in each of ten strategy-based sectors.
