MAPFRE AM Names New CEO

The asset management arm of MAPFRE, a large Spanish insurance company, has appointed a new head, replacing Álvaro Anguita, who has led the firm since its founding over 30 years ago.
Madrid-headquartered MAPFRE Asset Management has appointed Jorge Colomer (pictured) as its new CEO.
With more than 25 years of experience in the finance sector, Colomer will take the helm of the management firm at an important moment – MAPFRE is stepping up its financial business by expanding its presence in investment, savings, and wealth management solutions.
“Bringing Jorge Colomer on board will significantly strengthen our position in the asset management industry,” Juan Bernal, MAPFRE’s group chief investment officer, said.
Colomer, who holds a degree in economics and business administration from Complutense University of Madrid, also has a strong financial background and the ESG Analyst (CESGA) certification. He has over 25 years of professional experience in investment, asset management, and private banking, and has held senior positions at prominent national and international institutions.
Colomer is succeeding Álvaro Anguita, who has led the firm since its founding over 30 years ago. Under his leadership, the firm initially focused on efficiently managing the group’s balance sheet, and, in recent years, helped the company reach nearly €40 billion ($46 billion) in assets.
Through this appointment, MAPFRE said it is reaffirming its commitment to building a robust presence in the finance sector, fostering innovation in investment products, promoting sustainability, and delivering services increasingly geared to customers' needs.
Sustainability is a core pillar of MAPFRE AM’s investment philosophy, which manages over €40 billion in assets across Europe. The firm integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into its investment process and seeks to invest in companies demonstrating strong long-term responsibility alongside financial performance.
