Louisiana community bank turns to ex-Wachovia exec

Whitney National Bank taps Duthu to grow, combine private-client businesses. New Orleans-based Whitney National Bank has named former Wachovia executive Mark Duthu as head of its Trust & Wealth Management division, a new position. He'll supervise the expansion of the bank's private-banking trust, brokerage and investment-management services.

Old names

"Mark is a seasoned professional with an innate understanding of customized wealth management solutions and an outstanding track record of accomplishment at several major financial services institutions," says Whitney's chairman and CEO John Hope III.

Duthu, a 27-seven-year veteran of the financial-service industry, was head of Charlotte, N.C.-based Wachovia's trust offices Alabama and Texas before he joined Whitney. Prior to Wachovia, he was head of SouthTrust Bank's trust division and, before that, a senior v.p. with Bank One's trust and investment division.

Bank One is now part of JPMorgan Chase. SouthTrust is now part of Wachovia. Wachovia is slated to merge with San Francisco-based Wells Fargo.
