Julius Baer Appoints Former UBS Man in Basel
Swiss private bank Julius Baer has appointed Peter Senn, former UBS head of Wealth Management for the Northern Switzerland region, to the management team of its Basel branch as of 1 May 2008. Mr Senn, who left UBS last October, will be responsible for developing new client business with Swiss private clients at the Basel branch. He reports directly to branch manager, Claude Scharowski, and will also act as his deputy. Mr Senn joined UBS in 1983 and held a number of management positions in the investment clients and private banking areas in Basel – including head of Private Banking for the Basel branch and head of Investment Clients for the Northern Switzerland region. Gian Rossi, head of the German-speaking Switzerland, Germany and Austria region at Julius Baer, said: “As a very experienced and highly regarded banker with an excellent track record and a superb network of contacts in the region, he will make a key contribution towards further strengthening Bank Julius Baer’s presence in Basel.” The current responsibilities at the Julius Baer branch in Basel will continue to be performed by Marc Wild, head of the existing Swiss private clients business, Andreas Huber, head of the international private clients business, and Martin Bucher, head of External Asset Managers. Last week WealthBriefing reported that Julius Baer's Singapore operation has hired a team of six wealth managers, four client advisors and two assistants, from UBS to concentrate on the Thai market. According to global figures, the Zurich-based Julius Baer Group currently manages client assets in excess of SFr400 billion ($361 billion) as at the end of June 2007.
