Jersey Fund Manager to Open in Japan, Bermuda

Jersey fund firm Moore Management is planning to open offices in Japan and Bermuda later this year. Managing director Ian Moore says the volume of business has grown to the point where dedicated offices are now required in both jurisdictions. The firm already has a representative office in Bermuda which services clients in Japan. The new office in Tokyo will be staffed by Japanese personnel. Mr Moore, who has been doing business in the region for many years, said Japanese businesses needed flexible offshore structures for foreign investment and also to funnel investment back into their own country. He said that Moore Management, although a small boutique operation, had become a well-known name in certain financial circles there. "It all started when I was working at Citibank and since then I've continued to do fund transactions for clients. I've been dealing with the same person for 17 years, who has a very good network. Foreign banks see Japan as a major market," he said. "Tokyo is a very sophisticated and established finance centre and Hong Kong is a conduit and major focus point supporting Japanese clients." However, the environment is particularly demanding. "We do over 50 per cent of our business in Japan and that makes us meticulous because there is zero tolerance of mistakes. But if you deliver what you say you will, and perfectly, they will not use anyone else even if there is a cheaper option."
