UK-based J O Hambro Capital Management has hired four new recruits to form its small/mid-cap US equity team to boost its business in the US.

UK-based J O Hambro Capital Management has hired four new recruits to form its small/mid-cap US equity team to boost its business in the US.

Portfolio managers Thorsten Becker, Arun Daniel and Vincent Rivers alongside trader Eric Yi, all previously employed with Fidelity Investments owned Pyramis Global Advisors, will join JOHCM ahead of the launch of a US small and mid-cap equity strategy later this quarter. The team will be based in Boston, Massachusetts.

The equity strategy will be available to non-US investors via an open-ended investment company fund and to US-based investors through a mutual and commingled fund. The strategy will also be offered via a segregated account. The team will apply a core investment approach, managing a fundamental research-driven best ideas portfolio.

The strategy will have a capacity set at $5 billion (£2.9 billion) and the team will launch a global small and mid-cap equity strategy in due course.

"The appointment of these experienced and proven US equities investors enhances our presence in the United States, a market where we are making considerable inroads, and enables us to widen our investment fund range," said Gavin Rochussen, JOHCM, chief executive.

JOHCM is an active manager of equities, with £13.7 billion ($23.4 billion) of assets under management as of March 2014.
