A bond team has switched from Avoca Convertible Bond Partners to join ING Investment Management in its London office.

Comprised of Tarek Saber and Jasper van Ingen, the convertible bond team will offer equity-upside participation with downside capital protection to clients, the firm said in a statement.

Saber is investment team manager convertible bonds and Van Ingen currently serves as senior portfolio manager convertible bonds after joining ING IM in late November.

The firm recruited the pair into these newly-created roles as it expects investors to focus on yield, lower volatility and limited draw-down risk in the current investment environment, which convertible bonds match well, ING IM said.

At Avoca Convertible Bond Partners, the pair managed the Avoca Convertible Select Global Fund since its launch in April 2012. Saber joined the firm in 2011 leading the convertible bond business while Van Ingen started in 2013 as senior portfolio manager.

Until 2010, both Saber and Van Ingen were on the corporate opportunities strategy team at ABP/APG, of which Saber was head and Van Ingen was senior portfolio manager. This consisted of investments in convertible bonds and equity-linked instruments.

Saber has been involved with convertible bonds since 1991, with posts at HSBC, J Henry Schroders and Natwest. Van Ingen had previously worked at APG’s hedge fund investment department before joining the COS team.
