IMA Calls For Common Disclosure

All alternative products marketed to retail investors common should be subject to the same disclosure regime according to the UK's Investment Management Association responding to the UK's financial regulator, the Financial Services Authority's, discussion paper on regulation of alternative investments. The IMA wants the FSA to ensure access to alternative investments is properly regulated and it would like to see the existing high level of protection for collective schemes extended to alternatives. It also calls for the FSA to introduce measures covering the sale of unregulated products to retail investors without advice. According to the association, retail investors should be given indirect access to hedge funds with a level playing field for all alternative products and there should be a reform of the UK's tax system to ensure providers domicile their products onshore.
