HSBC Private Bank Appoints Ex-Rothschild Trust CEO

HSBC Private Bank has appointed Stephen Skelly as the new head of Global Wealth Solutions for Europe. He was global chief executive of Rothschild Trust until last June and was previously head of Wealth Structuring at Barclays Private Bank. Mr Skelly will be based in the Private Bank's London office in St James's and report to Declan Sheehan, chief executive officer of HSBC Private Bank for the UK and the Channel Islands. Mr Skelly will be responsible for HSBC Private Bank's Trust businesses in Switzerland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, for their wealth planning teams covering Europe, Middle East and North Africa and Global South Asian Diaspora, and for the rollout of insurance solutions across the region. He will also be a member of the GWS Executive Committee and will, subject to regulatory approval, become a member of the boards of the trust companies under his remit. Before that Barclays, Mr Skelly worked for Citibank and Price Waterhouse where he specialised in tax and estate planning. He is a qualified English Barrister. Mr Skelly left Rothschild Private Banking and Trust, along with Noland Carter, global chief investment officer, when the bank appointed Veit de Maddalena as its new chief executive.
